MARSEILLE, LA CIOTAT & LA SEYNE-TOULON,
THE HEART OF PROVENCE
Located in the Calanques National Park you will probably find that a refit period is almost not enough time to explore this mineral and vegetation rich natural asset. Indeed this part of the coast is a worldwide spot. The magic runs from Marseille from where you truly get the measure of the huge rocks rising up from the turquoise waters to La Ciotat where you can wrap up the day at the charming Petit Mugel creek. On your arrival, you can’t fail to be captivated by the soaring cliffs at Cap Canaille.
Marseille is a city full of art and culture and has many wonders to share with you. With its 26 centuries of history, it combines tradition and modernity. It takes the visitor on a journey that begins with its Greek and Roman origins and leads us through the centuries and right up to modern times and the great architectural achievements of the 21st Century.
The city has a wealth of monuments, places of interest and museums to visit. Marseille’s heart is the vibrant Vieux Port (old port), mast-to-mast with yachts and pleasure boats. Just uphill is the ancient Le Panier neighbourhood, the oldest section of the city. Also worth exploring is the République quarter, with its stylish boutiques and Haussmann buildings, and the Joliette area, centred on Marseille’s totemic Cathédrale de Marseille Notre Dame de Major.
La Ciotat enjoys an enviable position with great coastal scenery nearby to the west including the Marseille calanques, easy access to beaches along the coast to the east, and the town itself has a shing port and an attractive harbour full of pleasure boats. La Ciotat also has two ‘claims to fame’: the rst as the town where petanque was invented (a Provencal version of boules, that you will see played in every town in the region), and the second as the place where the rst moving lm was made - a short lm of a train arriving in La Ciotat train station in 1895 (the cinema can still be seen in the town.)
The coast to the east of the port is called the Gulf d’Amour and is where you will nd most of the sandy beaches around La Ciotat. From the old port in La Ciotat you can take a boat trip to Ile Verte, a small island covered in trees which is a popular place for a picnic.
If you love the sea, the forests or visits in Provençal villages, La Seyne-sur-Mer is a good destination. Indeed, if you are aquatic, you can enjoy the beach of “Les Sablettes” and dive in crystalline waters. If you prefer having a walk and seeing the sea from the mountains, the Corniche Merveilleuse road will take you to some hills where you can admire an amazing view of the coasts. If you want to know more about Provençal culture, you can also visit the villages and discover the history. The region is rich, enjoy it !.
Life at the yards
A refit period can sometimes exceed three months while your Superyacht and your crew stay in our shipyard. With the complexity of a refit project, we consider at Monaco Marine that one of the conditions of its success is also to have a crew in a good mood. That’s why Monaco Marine think about them and offers some facilities, like at home... Indeed, our shipyards have Crew Areas, to relax with a book in a nice cosy place or to enjoy some activities. These private areas are fully equipped with a pool, a football table, a tennis table, a TV and the WI-FI for those who are far from their family. For the most courageous, some shipyards can offer a fitness room, with a sea view. Also, the areas offer sofas and kitchen if crew want to organize their own event.
Crew areas and Crew concierge
Also, we provide an on-site concierge dedicated to assisting Captain and crew with anything they may need. It goes from transportation, hotel reservations, attractions, to very specific demands. If they are looking for a medical need, our team assists them in privacy. If they are looking for a wonderful and romantic restaurant with a beautiful sight on the sun going down, we advise them and book it. If they need a break after the season, we propose them safe and exceptional nightlife spots.
Captain and Crew events
The French Riviera is the place to be with its multifaceted. The sun is shining 300 days a year, the cities of the coast have an important history and culture, there are many beaches where crew just have to put some sun cream and absorb the sun rays, if they prefer the fresh air and hiking they can enjoy the mountains, the Mediterranean food will awaken the taste buds and many different activities and sports are waiting for them, on the sea or on land. The French Riviera is a huge open-air playground which can be explored all along the year. It’s in this warm landscape and atmosphere that Monaco Marine organize some special great private events for Captains and crew inside or outside the shipyard.
